Ashanti Poster

OBJECTIVE
Picking the billboard’s number 1 most listened to album from the day you were born and creating an illustrated poster from it is exactly the kind of challenge I enjoy. So I put my headphones on, sat down and listened to Ashanti’s self titled album, building a mindmap in my sketchbook at the same time. Then, based on the vibes of that map, this poster was created.

PROCESS
After sketching out a couple of thumbnails, I decided on a colourful snake-branch-bed setup. I opted for a geometric airbrushed style, creating shapes in photoshop with the selection tool and shading them using textured airbrush brushes. Various effects and filters helped me enhance the illustration and type into a poster that captures the feelings I felt while listening to the album. The flowy title and bright, colorful tones in the back contrast the darker tone of the snake and bed.
